W unveils major refurbishments at NYU Conference

Starwood has used the 34th Annual New York University International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference (NYU) to unveil major refurbishments at 10 of the company’s W properties.

Starwood’s Vice President of Brand Management for Luxury and Design Brands in North America, Carlos Becil, said the renovation was aimed at lifting the standard of the W brand’s early properties in several key markets, including New York City, Seattle, Chicago, New Orleans, and Los Angeles.

“When W Hotels launched in 1998, it quickly redefined the space and continued to transform the traditional hotel experience as we entered new markets across North America,” Becil said.

“As W evolves from a U.S. phenomenon into a global design powerhouse, we are committed to fueling the innovation within our existing portfolio to create a consistent, cutting-edge experience for our guests.”

Starwood, in partnership with its ownership groups – including Host Hotels and Resorts, Rockpoint Group and Estein and Associates USA – have committed USD$100 million to the upgrades at W New York Union Square, W Seattle, W San Francisco, W New York, W Chicago Lakeshore, W New Orleans French Quarter, W San Diego, W Los Angeles Westwood, W Dallas, W New York Times Square and W Montreal.

A Qantas Boeing 747-400

  HM travelled to New York on Qantas, which offers daily flights to the Big Apple from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
