The Langham Melbourne has unveiled six stylish Grand Balcony rooms which each feature a private balcony, overlooking the city’s skyline, Flinders Street Station and Yarra River.

It’s fair to say that it’s unusual for a hotel to add on terraces or balconies once the hotel has been built and the idea to do so was the brainwave of The Langham Melbourne’s Managing Director, Ben Sington.

“There are very view five star hotels in Melbourne with outdoor balconies,” Sington said. “There are certainly none with our uninterrupted view of the city, so we investigated the possibility of building new balconies as an added feature for our guests to enjoy.”

Located on the 10th floor of the hotel, the balconies were retrofitted following the successful addition in 2011 of the hotel’s seven Terrace Rooms which each feature a large private balcony.

“The new balconies have only been available for a short time, but already they’re in high demand, especially on weekends,” Sington said.

Simon Webb from Melbourne-based Webb+ helped make Sington’s vision of rooms with a view a reality.
