STR Global’s report found that China is leading hotel construction in the region.
Of the 252,686 rooms in 1,013 hotels under construction as of last month, China reported the most rooms with 141,656 rooms in 441 hotels. Two other countries reported more than 20,000 rooms under construction; India (24,900 rooms), and Indonesia (24,014 rooms).
Furthermore, 2,393 hotels with a total of 556,637 rooms were operating under contract in the Asia Pacific region, according to the September 2015 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.
This represents a 4.3% increase in rooms under contract compared with September 2014, but a 2.7% year-over-year decrease in rooms under construction. The under contract data includes projects in the in construction, final planning and planning stages but does not include projects in the unconfirmed stage.
