Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) at Torrens University will host a Leadership Speaker Series (LSS) at its Town Hall Campus in Sydney this week to inspire the next generation of leaders in hospitality.

The event, to be held on 25 August from 2:30pm, will feature prominent hotelier Lorraine Mercuri, General Manager, Mercure Sydney International Airport as the lead panelist.

With over 20 years’ experience in the hospitality and hotel industries across Australia, students at BMIHMS at Torrens University will benefit from Mercuri’s expertise and record of significant industry achievements over a broad range of business units.

Mercuri’s experience includes understanding the local micro and macro operating environment, and working with industry partners and government agencies to stimulate market growth. A blend of strong technical and interpersonal skills with a strategic outlook forms the basis for her excellent leadership and sustainable business practices.

“BMIHMS at Torrens University places significant emphasis on the value and importance of partnerships with industry leaders, such as Lorraine,” said Jerome Casteigt, General Manager – Hospitality, Laureate Australia.

“The LSS is a perfect opportunity for BMIHMS students to obtain real exposure to industry leaders on a regular basis.

“The LSS further extends the industry immersion element of BMIHMS program for our students, giving them greater access to networking and employment opportunities upon graduation,” Casteigt said.

As lead panelist, Mercuri will discuss her career experiences and current trends within the sector, while providing an open Q&A forum, giving students the chance to gain greater insight into possible future career paths from those leading the field.

Previous panelists include world-renowned dynamic hotelier and restaurateur Loh Lik Peng, Founder and Director of the Unlisted Collection; Craig Hooley, General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney; and Rachel Argaman, CEO, TFE Hotels.

Since 2014, the BMIHMS Leadership Speaker Series has been creating panel discussions for BMIHMS students to learn and engage with those at the forefront of the hospitality industry.

Students currently studying management subjects such as leadership will attend the event, in addition to many watching live from Leura campus and across the globe via YouTube.
