Figures released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics show a total of 27,335 Australians visited the destination in April 2011.
The figure represents a 27.6% increase over the 21,421 recorded for the same period in 2010 in the process setting a new April record for Australian visitation.
The April intake brings the destination’s 2011 four month Australian visitor arrivals to 85,802, a 9.4% increase over the 78,430 recorded from January-April 2011.
Tourism Fiji Regional Director Australia, Paresh Pant said he was extremely gratified with the result to date.
Preliminary figures received for May, he said, bore out positive forward booking feedback received from Fiji’s airline and wholesaler partners which pointed towards another very strong year ahead for the destination.
Australian visitor arrivals continue to dominate Fiji’s international visitor intake, the four month tally representing 46% of the 186,634 international visitor arrival recorded for the period, that figure in itself representing an 8.9% increase over the 171,438 figure recorded in 2010.
