8Hotels has opened the doors to the newest property in Sydney, 1888 Hotel.
Located in Pyrmont and originally used for wool-storage, the 1888-erected building that houses the hotel has undergone a AUD$30 million development over the last two years to reveal a luxury property that offers 90 rooms, including a rooftop penthouse apartment overlooking the city surrounds.
The aesthetic of the hotel is distinctly Australian, blending the natural elements of reclaimed Iron Bark, concrete, stone and bronze with exposed brick walls and a five-storey, light-filled internal atrium. High ceilings and huge period windows reflect the heritage history and overall feel of the building.
“1888 Hotel is the most beautiful and unique of our 21 properties and is the culmination of a long and extensive collaboration to develop an exceptional boutique hotel in a wonderful location,” said 8Hotels CEO, Paul Fischmann.
“The property is just footsteps away from the city, the Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, the Entertainment Centre and the business districts of Pyrmont and Ultimo.
“The hotel has such an authentic contemporary aesthetic that we thought we should embrace the fact that all modern travellers can take memories away with them using their smartphones and share their experience with friends,” he said.
1888 Eatery and Bar serves up plentiful continental breakfasts, rustic shared plates and a carefully selected beer and wine menu with a focus on fresh and local ingredients sourced from artisan providores.
