Art Series Hotel Group is welcoming master colourist, Michael Johnson, to their collection, as his work becomes the inspiration behind the Group’s first Queensland property.
Set to open in June 2016, The Johnson will be located in Spring Hill, Brisbane, and marks a pivotal milestone for the Group in expanding their dedicated art inspired offering across Australia.
Eighty-three spacious suites and two penthouses boasting spectacular views across the city and multi-functional public spaces will have their walls adorned with the Sydney born artist’s original paintings and giclee prints.
Guests will be invited to get up close and personal with the hypnotic trademark horizontal bars, and heavily laden surfaces in his works that have led to Johnson being exhibited both nationally and internationally for over 40 years.
“Michael Johnson’s work is characterised by the use of intense colours and highly textured surfaces,” said Jane O’Neil, Art Series Hotel Group’s In House Art Curator.
“Johnson’s paintings are informed by an expansive engagement with nature, art history and the urban environment and are well suited to the vibrant subtropical landscape of Brisbane.”
William Deague, CEO of Art Series Hotel Group, said he looks forward to being part of the city’s revival.
“We’re excited to be a part of Brisbane’s expansion and aim to entice new visitors and residents to this city to embrace and experience its ever-growing artistic, cultural and creative endeavours,” he said.
Much like the group’s beloved properties in Melbourne, Adelaide and Bendigo, the boutique hotel is immersed within a bustling inner city neighbourhood, providing a local perspective for guests.
The hotel will build on the heritage suburb’s existing offerings for visitors, residents and local business executives with a resort style 50m pool and deck bar, state of the art gym, restaurant, two cafes and meeting and events facilities.
Art experiences at The Johnson will stretch far beyond the building’s walls as The Johnson will encapsulate all of the Art Series Hotel Group’s signature qualities including their infamous art tours and in-room art channels and libraries. Branded Smart cars and Lekker bicycles will be available to explore what the city has to offer and further afield.
From bedrooms to the boardroom, the AUD$155 million development will embrace becoming a community hub for guests to create personal experiences to enrich their lives.
