Bateman’s Bay will soon welcome a new luxury motel, with the opening of The Isla next month.
The retro-inspired accommodation was “designed by friends, for friends”. The Canberra friends behind this property, wanted to meet the needs of the modern traveller looking for holidays “rooted in mindfulness” as they explore Australia’s coastal towns.
The Isla co-founder, Yanna Dascarolis, said many travellers have fond memories of Batemans Bay, and they wanted to provide a stylish new environment from which to rediscover the area.
“I have fond memories of holidays in Batemans Bay as a kid and since having children on our own, we’ve fallen back in love with the beautiful untouched Australian beaches and warm community,” Dascarolis said.
“It was important for us to keep in touch with the things we love about Batemans Bay and create something that was a fitting reflection of its charm.”
The Isla features 18 rooms, including three suites – the largest of which boasts its own private pool. While, an old garage on the property was converted into a pool lounge that flows into a communal dining area.
The colour palette features sunset hues and natural textures, as well deep indigo blues to mimic the sea of the Spanish coastline, a nod to the founders’ European roots, while the modern design includes conveniences for travellers, such as contactless check-in via their mobile phone.
The Isla champions local suppliers, including award-winning architects THOSE, whose founders are all based within 90 minutes of the holiday destination.
Guests can also enjoy locally sourced artisan products, such as Dangerous Ales beer, cocktails from Poor Toms Gin and ST ALi espresso martinis via bespoke vending machine The Isla’s Cantina.
