Veriu Group has opened a 95-key apartment hotel in Melbourne’s inner-city suburb of Collingwood, after almost five years in planning and development.
Developed in partnership with luxury property developer Gurner, as part of its Atelier Residences project, Veriu Collingwood is the group’s second hotel in the city and the state.
Veriu Group CEO Zed Sanjana said the Collingwood Arts Precinct was a fitting location.
“Like many inner-city suburbs, Collingwood has experienced exponential growth and redevelopment over the years,” he said.
“With the revitalisation of industrial areas and the transformation of the suburb into a desirable residential and commercial hub, there’s clearly a growing demand for accommodation options in the area.”
Sanjana said there is a lack of hotels and serviced apartments in the area and he’s confident the hotel will satisfy growing demand from both corporate and leisure travellers seeking boutique, design-driven accommodation.
The property features a mix of suites – all of which are equipped with kitchen facilities and in-room laundry facilities, with balconies in most – a rooftop pool and bar with city views, conference and meeting facilities, an in-house restaurant, state-of-the-art gym and secure parking.
The contemporary interior design was brought to life by award-winning architectural and interior design practice, Warren and Mahoney, as part of Gurner’s Atelier Residences project, and celebrates Collingwood’s artistic heritage with industrial and artistic aesthetics inspired by New York-style architecture.
“We knew this hotel would set a new benchmark for design in Collingwood and that there would be nothing else comparable in the local area,” Sanjana said of the April 2019 signing.
Gurner Group Founder and CEO, Tim Gurner, said Veriu Group’s dedication to storytelling and affinity for Collingwood and the local area meant there was “a natural alignment”.
“When we set out to develop a hotel that would create a new level of luxury in Collingwood, we knew it needed an operator who believed in the unique storytelling of the area,” Gurner said.
“The hotel has drawn its inspiration from the artisans who once toiled in this exact location to create much of the heritage architecture you see today, so we wanted to pay homage to Collingwood’s historic artistry while celebrating its position now as one of Melbourne’s most popular suburbs.”
Veriu Collingwood brings the total number of hotels in Veriu Group’s rapidly expanding portfolio to 20. It follows the recent openings of Punthill Essendon North, Veriu Queen Victoria Market, Punthill Norwest, with construction underway on Punthill properties in the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine, Maitland in regional NSW, and the brand’s first NSW greenfield site in Liverpool.
