Expressions of interest are being sought for a major 1.7ha commercial land release to establish a landmark tourism and hospitality project in South East Queensland’s commercial hotspot. 

A significant site available for development in North Lakes, one of South East Queensland Major Regional Activity Centres, is perfectly positioned directly across from the strong performing Westfield North Lakes, featuring IKEA and Costco, and located 25 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD, 20 minutes from the Brisbane Domestic and International airports and 30 minutes from the Sunshine Coast.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery predicts the 17,200sqm site will provide economic development for the region through delivering a true mixed-use development with a variety of potential uses including, but not limited to, hotel accommodation, residential apartments, restaurants, retail, commercial and recreation facilities.   

“The North Lakes Town Centre site offers an incoming developer a great opportunity to work with Council to create a landmark medium to high density development, which adheres to sub-tropical principles and provides quality experiences for residents and visitors,” he said. 

“To achieve our goals for Moreton Bay to become a $40 billion economy by 2041, Council is seeking expressions of interest from qualified groups with the capacity and track record for delivering and or operating a range of land uses and project outcomes that are consistent with our vision for the site. 

“Council is committed to supporting the successful proponent in achieving this vision and will provide flexible commercial terms to ensure early activation of the site and a high-quality development outcome,” Mayor Flannery said. 

Growing resident and visitor numbers offer a strong consumer catchment for this development site, with 2.1 million people living in Moreton Bay Region and adjoining council areas.

“Moreton Bay’s billion-dollar tourism industry is on the rise, with 4.3 million annual visitors, more than double the total visitor numbers to Noosa, is home to Australia’s newest NRL team – the mighty Dolphins, and we’re a host venue for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Mayor Flannery said.
