Five-star boutique hotel, The Lyall, in South Yarra has reopened following a two-year redesign and refurbishment project.
The ‘discreet’ property, situated on Murphy Street off Toorak Road, was purchased in 2021 by the team behind recently opened luxury private hotel, The Royce, who have undertaken a revamp of its 49 rooms and suites, and expanded its restaurant and wine bar.
Designed by DKO, to deliver an upscale urban retreat, The Lyall features a contemporary lobby with plush sofas, ‘stately’ open fireplace and views of the Japanese Maple Garden.
Up the marble stairs, guests are welcomed to an array of Parisienne style balcony rooms, oversized Signature rooms, Grand Suites and a unique Penthouse Suite with two fireplaces and an expansive outdoor terrace.
All suites have king or twin beds and French or furnished balconies, and guests have access to pillow menus, velour bathrobes and slippers, Nespresso Machines, Dyson hair dryers, luxury bath amenities from Molton Brown.
“At DKO, we strive to create beautiful spaces with design integrity,” said DKO Director Interiors, Michael Drescher.
“Authenticity is important to our team, as is designing spaces that are crafted with high attention to detail, the reimagined Lyall offers a fresh era of elegance and sophistication.”
“The inspiration for this transformation is drawn from the idea of a European pied-à-terre, combining Australian and European furniture to create a blend of comfort and style. The approach exudes quiet luxury, emphasising high-quality, minimalist pieces that possess timeless appeal.
“The careful curation of materials, from alpaca velvet to woven wallpaper, chevron timber floors, and classic black and white marble, adds depth and character to the hotel’s design, enhancing its charm and character.”
