The StandardX makes its global debut in Melbourne next month with the opening of a Fitzroy hotel on August 8.
As the newest brand from Standard International, The StandardX is a celebration of style, art, music and culture.
With interiors by Melbourne-based interior design firm Hecker Guthrie, the 125-room hotel takes inspiration from the local “post-punk Little Band scene of yesteryear” to the music venues, street art and cafés of today.
Guests are welcomed to the lobby through a bold revolving door with the ground floor opening to an airy elevated loft with a fireplace.
Local artists are celebrated throughout including Jane Sinclair, with columns wrapped in macrame by Sarah Smalltown and paintings from Dane Lovett, complemented by custom furniture and antique pieces.
Across eight floors, guest rooms – ranging from Cozy King to a spacious Suite Spot with views of Fitzroy and the city skyline – follow a “contemporary, uncomplicated aesthetic” with a palette of blue and white, and a millwork ledge that doubles as a writing corner and open closet.
All-day dining concept, Bang, is led by Executive Chef Justin Dingle-Garciyya and offers a menu that celebrates bold street flavours and techniques using local produce to redefine Thai street food.
Dingle-Garciyya developed his skills in Michelin-starred kitchens across Europe, including Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Le Gavroche, and Can Fabes, and also served as Culinary Director and Executive Chef at prestigious hospitality brands such as Aman Resorts, Morgans Hotel Group, and Six Senses Resorts.
“Bang on flavours; that’s what Bang is all about. I’m excited to welcome guests to showcase bold Thai street flavours with a StandardX twist,” said Dingle-Garciyya.
“Using seasonally driven and sustainable ingredients throughout and a commitment to the extraordinary, every visit to BANG promises an incredible dining experience.”
Hotel guests also have exclusive access to The Roof, a rooftop dining experience inspired by the melodic flavours of Mercado Medellin with panoramic views of Fitzroy and Melbourne.
The Box, a retail concept in the lobby, offers everyday essentials, lifestyle items, as well as snacks and beverages.
