The Queensland Premier, Opposition Leader and frontbench colleagues will detail their vision for the tourism and transport sectors this month at Leadership QLD 2024: Tourism, Aviation and Transport Summit, ahead of the state election.

Don’t miss this industry event hosted by the Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) on Thursday, August 29 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, before Queensland voters head to the polls on October 26.

Speakers include Premier Steven Miles, Opposition Leader David Crisafulli, Tourism and Sport Minister Michael Healy, Shadow Transport Minister Steve Minnikin, Shadow Employment and Training Minister Brent Mickelberg and Shadow Environment Minister Sam O’Connor.

The event will be emceed by ABC’s Insiders host David Speers.

TTF CEO Margy Osmond said the summit will be an important opportunity for both major parties to outline their commitments to supporting Queensland’s visitor economy, ensuring the state’s tourism, transport and aviation sectors thrive.

“This event is a critical chance for Queensland’s political leaders to detail their plans for the tourism industry, which employs more than 260,000 people across the state,” she said.

“The sector is still facing significant headwinds from severe weather impacts, skills shortages, the rising cost of living and intense competition within the global tourism market.”

“By industry and government working together, Queensland can continue to be a leading destination for both Australian and overseas visitors and achieve its target of bringing in $44 billion a year by 2032.”

Ms Osmond praised new initiatives to boost tourism like the ‘Queensland is Bluey’s world in real life’ campaign and the six-month trial of 50 cent fares across public transport.

“It’s fantastic to see investment in improving public transport access and building the visitor economy, particularly as we prepare for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” she said.

She welcomed the Opposition’s long-standing, bipartisan approach to supporting the sector, including First Nations tourism, which will also play a key role in the lead-up to Brisbane 2032.
