Sofitel Melbourne On Collins is welcoming tennis fans in town for the Australian Open to experience the games from its relaxed tennis pop-up with champagne in hand.
At Sofi’s Lounge, fans can pull up a deck chair to watch the games on the big screen from 11am to 7pm, and avail of the Pommery Champagne Lounge.
Given its proximity to the event, located just 1.6kms from Melbourne Park, Sofitel Melbourne On Collins is popular during the Australian Open, with many rooms offering views over the precinct.
Over the years, the hotel has hosted a number of tennis stars, including Serena Williams and Venus Williams.
Sofitel Melbourne On Collins General Manager, Stephan Leroy, is expecting a strong result for the hotel this Australian Open.
“Over the first weekend of the Australian Open, Melbourne’s luxury hotels saw a 9% increase in occupancy,” Leroy told HM, quoting STR data.
“With demand expected to continue rising, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins recorded stronger growth than the rest of the market and anticipates demand to keep growing throughout the entire AO period.
“Sofitel Melbourne on Collins’s prime location, just a few minutes’ walk from Rod Laver Arena, makes it the ideal choice for last-minute bookings.”
The hotel recently hosted an exclusive VIP event for high-valued guests and partners featuring a Q&A session with Olympic Gold Medallist and world No 5 tennis player, Qinwen Zheng, ahead of her Australian Open appearance.
“We are proud to continue our tradition of welcoming world-class athletes and distinguished guests at our hotel,” Leroy added.
