Taplin Group and 1834 Hotels have opened a new 60-key coastal property in South Australia.
Located at 1 Colley Terrace, The George Glenelg aims to deliver a “refined and sophisticated stay” close to Glenelg Beach and the Jetty Road precinct.
It’s the latest venture from Taplin Group, a South Australian family-owned company with a heritage dating back to 1932.
“We are proud to officially open The George Glenelg, a project that reflects our deep connection to Glenelg and our vision for the future of tourism in South Australia,” said Taplin Group Director, Tom Taplin.

“This hotel is designed to set a new benchmark in boutique luxury, providing a sophisticated yet relaxed retreat that will attract visitors from across Australia and beyond.”
Inspired by the natural beauty of Glenelg’s coastline, each of guest room has been designed to offer “a tranquil retreat” for guests.
“The George Glenelg is a strategically positioned property in one of Adelaide’s most high-demand tourism and business precincts,” said 1834 Hotels Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bullock.

“With a strong focus on commercial performance and guest satisfaction, we are confident this boutique hotel will thrive in Glenelg’s competitive accommodation market.
“We see significant potential for The George to capture both domestic and international markets and look forward to working with the Taplin Group to shape its long-term success.”
The Taplin family’s cherished dog George, which inspired the hotel name, is a feature in playful but subtle details woven throughout the hotel.

“Welcoming our first guests to The George has been an incredible milestone,” said The George Glenelg General Manager, Peter Clark.
“The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s rewarding to see our vision come to life. We look forward to creating memorable experiences for travellers from near and far.”
