Travel aggregation giant, TripAdvisor, has opted to put its resources to the benefit of the global healthcare community by launching a dedicated portal to help hotels offer available rooms to frontline workers and government agencies.
The ‘Hotels for Health’ program will draw on TripAdvisor’s database of more than two-million accommodation providers worldwide to connect healthcare workers and patients requiring a place to self-isolate while they complete their recovery. The system was recently successfully trialled the system in the UK by connecting the National Health Service (NHS) with registered hotels in the south of England.
The move will help doctors, nurses, paramedics and other frontline workers unable or unwilling to risk exposing their primary residence including family members to effects of their work caring for infected patients after each shift.
Using the resource, hotels will be able to register and advise how many rooms are available for healthcare workers to utilise if needed. TripAdvisor will then connect hotels with healthcare providers and use its targeting capabilities to narrow down specific areas in desperate need of extra beds.
TripAdvisor Chief Commercial Officer, Kanika Soni, said the company was proud to be able to assist the accommodation needs of frontline workers with temporary housing in available hotels.
“We know so many frontline medical workers can’t simply return home after work because they live with someone with a compromised immune system, so Tripadvisor is proud to offer help where possible.”
The initiative complements similar efforts being made in various parts of the world by global accommodation giants Accor, Marriott, Hilton and more in helping healthcare workers with short-term housing to help contain the potential spread of COVID-19.
